Our mission and plan to help bring the ECHL
to Maryland
Pro Hockey MD Inc. is a non-profit dedicated to bringing the professional hockey world back to Maryland! With the ECHL planning to expand in the next few years and the possibility of team relocation, the time is now for Frederick to get organized and put their state and their support for professional hockey on display.
Our mission and plan to help
bring the ECHL to Frederick Maryland.
To bring together the community around hockey while showing viability and support for putting Frederick in the conversation for an ECHL franchise.
Here's how you can help
The first thing you can do is add your name and email to the petition by clicking ‘Join the Movement’ in the menu bar. We will use that list to show the level of support and to keep you updated on events and news around the movement. Here are some other ways you can get involved.
Attend the events.
Come out to one of our events where we will hang out, sell merch, and talk hockey. We will be at some of your local breweries and art galleries around town. Swing by and meet others who are passionate about bringing pro hockey to Maryland.
Get some swag.
There is no better way to grow the movement than rolling around town with a Bring Pro Hockey 2 MD t-shirt or the official hat. Check out the store and pick up shirts, hats, pennants and more.
Spread the word.
Follow us @ProHockeyMD and spread the word on social media using the hashtags #FaceoffMaryland
Engage the media and national hockey personalities to help put Maryland in the conversation.
The Plan
Build the community
Bring the community together around a platform that educates, activates, and excites, allowing us all to be organized in our support for the ECHL in Maryland.
Create excitment
Keep information actively flowing while equipping the community with everything they need to spread the word. We want the attention of city leaders, investors, and the ECHL itself.
Connect investors
We will assemble a management group that works to connect city leaders, investors, and consultants to help drop the puck financially and engage ECHL officials.
Drop the puck
Transition from 'Pro Hockey MD' to the first fan group ever that created the team they are rooting for.
The Reason
Based on the numbers there is no reason that Maryland should not be in the conversation for an ECHL expansion team. There are also other reasons we believe a movement like this was necessary.
The time is now. The ECHL is planning expansion & relocation
The ECHL has confirmed that the league is discussing plans to expand to 32 teams and match the number of NHL franchises. Two other ECHL teams have futures that are unclear and could be on the move. This means up to 4 new cities may be added in the coming years. Several cities have already gone on record saying they will be submitting expansion bids. Now it's our turn.
Data suggests hockey is viable in this area
Frederick is one of the fastest growing metro areas in the nation with a higher household income than many other ECHL markets. We have the population and income to be in the conversation for minor league hockey. We believe Frederick should pivot their focus on preparations to one of the best live sports! Frederick has proven to be a successful minor league sports market with the Frederick Keys for over 35 years and the recent addition of the Flying Cows.
Time to come together as fans
The Frederick area is a unique region where pro sports allegiances to the Capitals, Penguins, and Rangers naturally separate the community. We believe this area needs one team, one logo, and one cap that unites us all around our state and county pride. The Maryland region has a much needed void to fill with local hockey.
To bring entertainment, jobs and tax dollars to the community
NHL and all sports franchises provide cities with a significant boost in local employment, investment, and tax base. Arena operations would bring jobs for local citizens and a significant increase in tourism dollars to the city and its downtown districts. A hockey arena guarantees you 36 home games per-season bringing in overnight tourists who get to stay and experience the city. Multi purpose arenas are also the most flexible in terms of layout, allowing them to be activated for more during the off-season. Basketball, indoor football, lacrosse, tennis, concerts, expos, and dozens of other events are just some of the community functions it can host.
To help support and improve the quality of hockey
Pro Hockey MD is a 501c3 non-profit recognized by the IRS and Maryland. This movement was built by a group of Maryland hockey players, coaches, business owners, and enthusiasts who share a mutual love for the game and their home state. The profits we raise from merchandise or events will be put back into the community to help improve hockey facilities for communities. Follow our events to learn more!
The Community
The Pro Hockey MD movement is a true community collaboration. Some of the area’s top creatives, local business owners, and hockey enthusiasts joined forces. They are donating their time, talents, and support to help bring Pro Hockey to Maryland (and do some social good along the way.)
No one was paid in the making of this movement.
